The definition of tolerance, as shown on the Cambridge Online Dictionary, is the willingness to accept behavior and beliefs which are different from your own, although you might not agree with or approve of them. You can find that here: http://dictionary.cambridge.org
When I say us, I mean all of us, as a society. Tolerance is something that should come so easy to us all, but for some reason it doesn't. To work and live together in this world, we need to tolerate one another. This does not mean we need to accept one another, that is an altogether different word. It would be wonderful if someday everyone learned acceptance, but one step at a time. Here is an example of religious tolerance: Jimmy next door to you is Wiccan. You are a devout Christian who was raised to believe that anyone who is Wiccan, or a witch, is evil. You may not be able to convince yourself, or accept that Jimmy is not evil, but you do have to tolerate it. Instead of disrespecting him by saying rude comments or making rude jestures toward him, just leave the poor man alone. Also, not everyone appreciates the door to door religious personas. I am Wiccan, and do not appreciate when I get the occasional Christian person at my door telling me that I need to change my ways or I'm going to hell. That's nice that you are concerned about my welfare, but I do not think that I am going to hell. Before you judge someone, do a little research. If you do not feel comfortable going up to the person and asking them directly, there are many ways to find out more about their religion. I will list a couple sites on here that I think will help anyone looking for information. In addition, I will continue to work on putting Wicca information on my site for those who want it. Peace can be acheived if you want it, but you must work for it. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
